Fees, and Entry InstructionsWeekly Reader's
"What's Your Story?" awards are designed to honor the best in published
nonfiction writing by students. The contest is intended to inspire young people
to tell compelling, true stories through good nonfiction reporting and writing.
Eligibility Entries must be student writing
produced between Jan. 1, 2006, and Dec. 31, 2006. Students and teachers may submit
more than one entry in the following categories: - Whole publication
- Individual
student writing
In each of the two categories, Weekly Reader will
select a winner at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. There will
be a total of six winners. If your publication includes a Web
site, please provide the URL. Fees &
Deadline A fee of $40 fee per entry is required. No entries will
be processed without payment. Checks should be made payable to AEP. All entries
should be postmarked by March 16, 2007. Entries postmarked after
that date will not be accepted unless accompanied by an additional $15 fee (for
a total of $55). No entry will be accepted with a postmark later than March
30, 2007. Prizes Each winning
whole publication will be awarded a $500 check (payable to the school) and a plaque.
In addition, a Weekly Reader editor will visit each winner’s school. Teacher
sponsors of winning entries will receive a one-year full classroom subscription
to the Weekly Reader publication of his or her choice. (Elementary schools will
receive any Weekly Reader or WR News edition; for middle and
high schools, choices include Writing, READ, and Current
Events magazines.) Each winner of an individual student writing award
will receive a check for $500, payable to the student. In addition, Weekly Reader
will publish (or republish) the piece, either in one of its magazines or on its
Web site. Weekly Reader will contact all winning schools and students.
Winners will be honored at the annual Association for Educational Publishers luncheon
in June in Washington, D.C. For more information write to
